Parent Lecture Series

A long standing tradition at The Seven Hills School, the Parent Lecture Series brings renowned speakers to our Walnut Creek campus, who share insights, advice and inspiration on current parenting and education topics. Offered to parents, educators and community members throughout the East Bay, the Series is held two-three times a year and is an extension of the School’s mission to “develop the intellect, engage the spirit and foster respect for and responsibility to our world.”

We are excited to present our 2016-17 speakers:

  • Jennifer Siebel Newsom: The Mask You Live In

    December 6

Jennifer Siebel Newsom, creator of the award-winning documentary Miss Representation, explores how our narrow definition of masculinity harms boys, men, and society at large in her second film, The Mask You Live In. Boys in this film confront persistent messages that encourage them to disconnect from their emotions, devalue authentic friendships, objectify women and resolve conflicts with violence. Experts in neuroscience, psychology, sociology, education, sports and media weigh in on our “boy crisis” and tactics to combat it. This important film illustrates how we can help raise a healthier generation of boys and young men.

  • Dr. Madeline Levine: Teach Your Children Well

    April 12

Madeline Levine, Ph.D. and co-founder of Challenge Success at Stanford University, is a psychologist with close to 30 years of experience as a clinician, consultant, educator and author of New York Times bestseller, The Price of Privilege. Her most recent book, Teach Your Children Well, also a New York Times bestseller, tackles our current narrow definition of success and how it unnecessarily stresses academically talented kids and marginalizes many more whose talents and interests are less amenable to measurement. Dr. Levine will give practical, research-based solutions to help parents return their families to healthier and more balanced versions of themselves by remembering that successful parenting is measured 20 or 30 years down the road, not at the end of any particular grading period.
