Integrated Expressive Arts

Integrated Expressive Arts allows students to discover and develop the creative, imaginative, and inventive components of their lives. The class incorporates multiple art disciplines, using project-based curriculum to provide the opportunity for students to explore avenues of self-expression. In this class, we study music, art, drama, speech and debate, technology, film, photography, and media literacy, and learn how all of these media fit together into an artistic, cohesive whole.

The class takes place in a state-of-the-art theatre, which provides opportunity for all performances to be of the highest caliber, and gives the students performance opportunities that develop their character, confidence, and self-esteem. Technology and its impact on the arts is a large component of the class, as we utilize various programs and applications to enhance creativity in all artistic media. The curriculum is designed to reflect and support the rest of the Middle School curriculum, evidenced in projects such as the sixth grade art/dance/music project (in conjunction with the Language Arts/History unit, "Dawn Of The Modern Age”), seventh grade Civil War talks, and the eighth grade Elizabethan Productions.

Integrated Expressive Arts thrives on the notion that, if it can be described and embraced as artistic, we will explore that avenue of creative expression.
