Seven Hills 8th Grader Receives New York Times Recognition for Personal Narrative
In their Language Arts classes, Seven Hills 8th graders write personal memoirs, using vivid details and voice to share their meaningful life moments, big and small. Last fall, several students took a chance and submitted their own unique, powerful narrative to The New York Times’ second annual personal narrative writing contest. The Times invited middle and high school students across the country to tell a short story about a particular moment, event, or experience in 600 words or fewer.
Out of 9,000 entries, Seven Hills’ own Michael Solomon ‘21 was selected as a Top 95 finalist for the narrative contest for his touching piece, “Just Try.” Michael was one of only a few middle school students in the county to be recognized and was tied as the youngest finalist at age 13. Congrats Michael on this special New York Times recognition!
