Head of School

Kathleen McNamara became Seven Hills' Head of School in 2015. Kathleen was attracted to the clarity of the Seven Hills mission, the strength of our faculty, the depth of our community, the success of our graduates, and the limitless possibilities ahead of us.
Now in her 36th year as an independent school educator, Kathleen has dedicated her career to creating lively, supportive learning communities where both students and employees thrive. Before joining Seven Hills in 2015, she served in a variety of leadership roles at independent schools across the country, including Tuxedo Park School (NY), Marin Country Day School (CA), Rippowam Cisqua School (NY), and The Masters School (NY). She began her career in education as a Middle and High School French and English teacher and dorm parent, experiences that shaped her belief in the power of strong student-teacher relationships.

A passionate advocate for professional development, Kathleen regularly speaks at national and regional independent school conferences and was invited to join the California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS) board in 2022. She holds a B.A. in French from Rutgers University, an M.A. in French Literature from New York University, and a Diploma of French Studies from Université François Rabelais in Tours, France.

Kathleen and her husband, Jihad, have three adult children. When she’s not immersed in school life, she enjoys reading memoirs, traveling the globe, and perfecting her skills as a “reasonably good” knitter.
