Lower School

In Lower School, our Physical Education curriculum lays the groundwork for lifelong fitness through movement, play, and purposeful instruction. Students engage in games and creative activities that help them develop essential physical skills while building self-confidence and a positive relationship with their bodies.
Core focus areas include:
  • Manipulative Skills: Throwing, catching, striking, volleying
  • Locomotor Skills: Running, skipping, hopping, dodging
  • Non-locomotor Skills: Balancing, jumping, tumbling, spatial awareness
  • Body Knowledge: Learning how bones and muscles work together
  • Social-Emotional Growth: Practicing cooperation, respecting space, and encouraging peers

With the help of age-appropriate equipment—like recreational balls, BOSUs, rollers, jump ropes, and more—students explore movement while internalizing key values like confidence, kindness, and resilience. As they progress through the grades, intramural games and regulation sports are introduced, always with an emphasis on participation, skill-building, and fun.
