Through open-ended materials, nature-based experiences, and carefully designed provocations that spark curiosity, children develop essential early skills in math, language, science, and social-emotional growth—all within a play-based framework.
Language and literacy come to life through rich conversations, collaborative storytelling, and print-rich play. Whether they’re jotting down shopping lists in the dramatic play area, creating their own storybooks, navigating bike lane traffic signs, or sharing reflections in the end-of-day meeting, children begin to understand the power of words and communication in their daily lives. With long stretches of uninterrupted play and guided teacher support, Red Barn students strengthen skills in self-regulation, stamina, empathy, and peer collaboration—important foundations for the transition to Kindergarten.
Like the Rainbow class, Red Barn students enjoy weekly music, library, studio, and ecological literacy specialist classes. Lunch in small group settings fosters conversation, curiosity about new foods, and mindful eating. As active members of their classroom community, they develop a strong sense of responsibility, respect, and confidence in their growing independence.
