6th – 8th Grade

Middle School students deepen their performing arts experience, honing skills in drama, movement, and voice while continuing to explore their own creative voice. Smaller class sizes allow for individualized instruction in dramatic technique, music theory, and ensemble performance.
A project-based curriculum gives students the chance to engage in drama, speech, music, dance, film, and audio-visual production. This interdisciplinary approach allows them to understand how different art forms intersect and enrich one another, fostering a deeper appreciation for the arts. Elective courses offer additional opportunities to develop specialized skills, such as stage makeup design.

By 8th grade, students are fully immersed in the performing arts. They prepare and perform scenes at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland—an experience that sharpens their craft. Afterward, they continue their artistic journey through dance, voice, instrumental music, and even foreign language as part of the cultural exchange trip to Japan, broadening both their perspective and expression.

Music remains a vital part of the Middle School experience, with twice-weekly classes in one of four pathways:
  • String Orchestra: Open to all skill levels; students develop individual musicianship and ensemble skills.
  • Choir: Vocal training, music theory, and choral singing build confidence and collaboration.
  • Digital Music: Students compose and edit music using professional software and tools.
  • Rhythm & Percussion: Focused on world rhythms, hand drumming, and ensemble work.
