Kindergarten – 2nd Grade

In the early grades, Social Studies begins with self-discovery and grows into an exploration of community—both local and global. Kindergarteners explore their identities and their roles as kind, empathetic citizens with the help of Kimochi friends and social-emotional learning tools. As they grow, students examine the traditions, systems, and stories that shape communities.
A highlight of the year is welcoming our Japanese exchange students, offering a hands-on look at global interdependence. Through stories, discussions, and celebrations, students learn how historical figures honored in calendar holidays helped shape the world we live in today.
